Student Organization of the Month: ENACTUS

ENACTUS is a global, non-profit organization that is literally changing the world through highly dedicated student teams on more than 1600 university campuses in 40 countries. ENACTUS offers these students the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise, thereby improving the standard of living for millions in the process. Get to know more about this org as well as the president, Katelyn Bain.

Q: Give us a brief summary of your organization.
Texas State Enactus, or Entrepreneurial Action Us, is a not-for-profit organization supported by individuals, foundations, and corporations whose mission is to better individuals, communities, and countries through free enterprise. Enactus's purpose is accomplished through outreach projects where students and faculty involve the community in the free enterprise system, providing the students with an opportunity to teach others what they have learned.

Q: How has your organization helped you grow as a student and future professional?
Enactus has provided me with hands-on experience that cannot be taught in the classroom and helped me grow as a leader. As president, I work side-by-side with our advisor, Mrs. Vicki West, and our Executive Committee to manage 120+ undergraduates and over 20 active projects in our organization. I have learned management techniques, developed financial and investment skills, and had numerous opportunities to network with my peers and professors.

Q: What makes your organization special/unique?
I think Texas State Enactus is unique because it operates like a true business. Enactus assist local business owners and programs to improve the community, as well as creates business ventures that help empower our students. With the guidance and support from our advisor, our profit centers allow us the ability reinvest into our organization.

Q: What is something you wish someone would’ve told you before you started your college journey?
I wish someone would have told me to take chances and get involved! I have learned through my college journey, as well as through Enactus, that if you don’t take advantage of an opportunity, someone else will.

Q: How can students join your organization?
Students can join Texas State Enactus by taking Studies in Free Enterprise, an upper-level marketing course (MKT 3362).
