Job Posting for Texas State graduate in the Houston area

If you are a Texas State graduate seeking employment in the Houston area and fit the following description, you are invited to email an updated copy of your resume to LaTonya Henry, the Assistant Director for Career Services at Texas State University at latonya@txstate.edu

  • college degree 
  • good grasp of basic accounting principles
  • skill at QuickBooks Pro, contact database management (ACT), all aspects of Microsoft Office - especially Excel
  • aptitude for mastering new software
  • understanding of computers/software in general 
  • ability to inter-phase with the company's IT support team
The ideal candidate will have also one to two years work experience in some aspect of the energy industry.

The Countdown has begun!

December graduates, your final semester is almost over, and we want to wish you our sincerest congratulations for getting to this point!   For graduation information, refer to our website - there you will find commencement details, a graduation checklist, and answers to frequently asked questions.  We wish you the best in all your future endeavors!  (Eat 'em up, Cats!!)

Before you leave for the break...

Schedule an appointment to meet with your academic advisor about the spring 2011 semester if you haven't already!  Late registration and Schedule Changes for the spring semester will open up January 6th  ... By meeting with your advisor now, you can already know what classes to look for and which changes you might need to make to your schedule at that busy time.  You can schedule an appointment by calling 512-245-1993 or by stopping by the advising center in 115 McCoy Hall.

Scholarship applications now available!

All business majors who will graduate in December 2011 or later are eligible for McCoy College scholarships. 

Scholarship criteria, information, and applications are now available on the McCoy College website 

From the main page, hold your cursor over Undergraduate Programs, then click 'Scholarships'.  Browse the information and click on the 'online' link to see the application forms and instructions. 

The application deadline is February 15th, 2011 so get started with your application now!

Guest Speaker: Richard Ressler of Moster Wynne Ressler Law Firm

The Student Economics Association is hosting a guest speaker on November 18th, 2010 at 5:00pm in 124 McCoy HallMr. Richard Ressler serves as Managing General Counsel for Moster Wynne Ressler Law Firm and is an indispensable strategist and consultant for clients, helping them use the law as a tool to guide complex decision making.  Mr. Ressler has experience in venture capital and other start-up investments, bank and other loan financings, structured financing, sophisticated leasing arrangements, and mergers and acquisitions.  Mr. Ressler received his Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School and his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Princeton University. A short Question & Answer session will follow his presentation.

Management Strategy Class Starts Up New Organization to Fight Violence

A Management Strategy Class started up a new student organization called Bobcats Leaving Out Violence (B.L.O.V.) in support of students that have had to endure any kind of domestic violence.  The organization commemorates the death of their classmate, Tiffanie Perry, earlier this semester due to domestic violence.  The class is having a bake sale today and tomorrow, November 16th and 17th, between 9:00am and 3:00pm outside of LBJ to support the Hays County Women's Center.  Stop by for cookies, cupcakes, brownies, rice krispie treats, and much more!  Everything will be a $1 and donations will be accepted.  All proceeds will go to the Hays County Women's Center.

Sign up today for job shadowing!  Would you like a chance to 'test out' the career of your choice?  Are you curious about the job responsibilities and skills needed for a certain occupation?  Looking to network and make some connections to a company?  Develop contacts for a possible future internship and / or full-time job?

FMA fundraiser coming up!

The Financial Management Association (FMA) is hosting a fundraiser at Plucker's on Thursday, November 4th to raise money for the FMA Conference in New York this Spring semester.  Please come and enjoy a live band and remember 20% of the profits will go to FMA!  Towards the end of November, FMA will also be hosting a silent auction to help raise money for the conference.  If your calendar isn't booked yet, come on out and support your fellow students!  Visit the FMA website for more information.

No summer plans? Study abroad in Barcelona!

Enrollment for the Summer 2011 McCoy College of Business Study Abroad trip to Barcelona, Spain is officially open!  Earn six credit hours while studying and exploring Barcelona, Spain!  The program lasts from May 15 to June 15, 2011.  The enrollment period will continue through March 31, 2011 but if you're interested in going, now is the time to start planning.  You can schedule an appointment with an advisor to discuss what courses you could take by calling 512-245-1993 or stopping by 115 McCoy Hall.  Contact Dr. Shah for application information at vshah@txstate.edu and visit our website.

If you are a junior or senior, or are interested in learning more about job search and application strategies, you should plan on sticking around campus after your classes on Wednesday, November 10th.  Attend a session right here in 111 McCoy Hall on "Job Search Strategies & Tips for Applying".  The session will last from 5:00pm to 6:00pm and is being hosted by Career Services in collaboration with the McCoy College of Business Advising Center.
