Get ready for the 3rd Annual San Marcos Manufacturers’ Association Gear Up 10 Mile Run!

The first two runs have become the most successful fund raising events in the 33 year history of the San Marcos Manufacturer's Association (SMMA) having raised nearly $20,000. The net proceeds provide scholarship awards to local students.

With the higher costs of education, SMMA wants to increase scholarship awards to further assist students in covering these costs and the SMMA Gear Up 10 Mile Run is an endeavor to generate funds in order to increase the scholarship award levels.

December Student Organization of the Month: Beta Gamma Sigma

The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business accreditation opened the door to Beta Gamma Sigma, the preeminent honor society for business programs accredited by AACSB International, and the Texas State BGS chapter was established in November 1997.

Q: How can Beta Gamma Sigma help a student reach their goals?

Beta Gamma Sigma is the international honor society for students enrolled in AACSB-accredited business programs. Only five percent of business programs world-wide are accredited by AACSB, which puts McCoy College of Business Administration in the top echelon of business schools. Beta Gamma Sigma membership is the highest honor that we can bestow upon our students. Being a BGS member shows that a student is “the best in business” at his or her university, and many employers recognize the value of hiring BGS members.

Q: What resource on campus do you recommend for students to utilize?

We recommend that students take advantage of the many professional development opportunities offered to them by student organizations, McCoy COBA events such as Business Leadership Week, and guest speaker events.

Q: What makes Beta Gamma Sigma special/unique?

Beta Gamma Sigma is unique among McCoy COBA student organizations because it is the honor society for ALL business students across disciplines.

Q: How can students join Beta Gamma Sigma?

Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is by invitation only. The top 10 percent of seniors, juniors, and second-semester sophomores, and the top 20% of second year graduate students are invited to membership each fall and spring. Invitees pay a one-time lifetime membership fee, and then they are BGS members for life!
