This year AITP has a calendar filled with many
events and opportunities to help our members network, get involved, and most importantly
have fun! Three of our biggest events this school year are the Region III
Student Conference at the end of October in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the I.T.
Symposium, which is AITP at Texas State’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and the
National Collegiate Conference next spring in Atlanta, Georgia! Among these
important events are our Student Chapter Meetings, which occur once a month. We
will be volunteering at Bobcat Day and Bobcat Build, and we have monthly Social
Events to get our members acquainted with each other as well. To get prepared
for the Regional and National competitions, we are also offering Region III and
NCC Prep Courses to members interested in going to the competitions. We
currently have three information sessions lined up for this fall semester where
major I.T. Companies are coming to McCoy to speak to CIS Students and AITP
members about their company, which is also a great networking opportunity. A
new opportunity we are offering this year is our “CIS Study Sessions” held
every Monday evening in McCoy 332!
Q: How will your major and AITP help you reach your goals?
·
CIS has been providing me with the necessary
I.T. skills that I will need no matter which path I decide to take in my future
career. Coupled with CIS, AITP has provided me wonderful networking
opportunities that are exposing me to major I.T. companies that I am interested
in. Both McCoy and AITP have offered me scholarships and awards to help defer
the cost of school and get my name out there. All of these things are ways that
CIS and AITP are helping me reach my ultimate goal of landing a job straight
out of college that I like, can be proud of, and will excel at.
Q: What resource on campus do you recommend for students to
utilize?
·
The greatest resources on campus are the faculty
of your department. Building rapport with your professors is key for your
success, because they are not only helpful with classes, but they are also
great to have in your network. When they see that you are taking an interest in
getting ahead and really seizing the opportunity to learn, I have found that
they are more than happy to write a letter of recommendation or be a good
reference for your future career opportunities.
Q: What is your favorite part about Texas State?
·
My favorite part of Texas State is the layout,
location, scenery, and landscaping of the campus. It is such a beautiful place to
work, study, and live in.
Q: What do you think is the ‘key
to success’?
·
I strongly believe that the key to success is
striving to be the best you can possibly be in everything that makes you a
well-rounded person.
