HACU and Southwest Airlines to offer college students a chance to receive travel awards

Online Application open through May 15, 2015 

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and Southwest Airlines are partnering once again to offer college students the opportunity to apply for the “Dándole Alas a Tu Éxito/Giving Flight to Your Success^TM” ¡Lánzate! Travel Award Program.
Eligible students can apply for the opportunity to receive a travel award to visit with family while in college. Online application with essays will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. CDT on May 15, 2015. For complete eligibility and additional guidelines, click here.

Southwest Airline tickets are awarded to undergraduate and graduate Hispanic students with socio-economic needs who journey away from home to pursue higher education. Students must submit two essays with their application. Each student is eligible to receive between one and four tickets for use by the student or immediate family to travel to/from a college or university.

March Student Organization of the Month - Phi Alpha Delta

Get to know sophomore applied mathematics sophomore, Hayley Boynton, and Vice-President of Phi Alpha Delta.  Phi Alpha Delta is a pre-law student organization dedicated to providing the most useful and accurate information for law school bound students. We do so by visiting law schools, hosting law school panels, and inviting lawyers, judges, law school admissions personnel, and law school students to speak about their unique perspectives. We also host LSAT workshops, providing exposure to LSAT test prep services at a discounted rate. Phi Alpha Delta is committed to creating an atmosphere of motivation, encouragement, and focus for all law school bound students.

Q: How will your major and Phi Alpha Delta help you reach your goals?

A: I am majoring in Mathematics, which is a little abstract for law school, but it does set me aside as a candidate when applying. Being a math major, it is immensely helpful to be a member of Phi Alpha Delta because the organization gives me the connections and opportunities for law school while still majoring in what I enjoy. This way, going into law school I will be prepared.

Q: What resource on campus do you recommend for students to utilize?

A: I recommend students to use the SLAC lab on campus. GPA is about half the game for law school applications and Texas State has provided a great tutoring system so everyone can have a high GPA, even in the hardest of classes.

Q: What makes your organization special/unique?

A: Phi Alpha Delta is the only pre-law organization on campus, so if you have any interest in law school you should check us out! Our main goal is to give everyone the information they need for an educated decision about law school. Also, Phi Alpha Delta is an international fraternity so once you become a national member, you're a member for life. Phi Alpha Delta has a history of successful members including Bill Clinton. So if you ever wished to be Bill Clinton's brother, join P.A.D.

Q: What is something you wish someone would’ve told you before you started your college journey?

A: I was very excited coming into college and at first I was on top of everything. However, it is easy to lose motivation especially with so many distractions. I recommend not procrastinating and to keep your long term goals in mind to stay motivated, but have fun too.

Q: How can students join your organization? 

A: We meet every other Monday in McCoy 333. Our next meeting is March 9th. Come and check us out and if you like what you see we can get you registered with the national office for a on time fee of $100 and a chapter fee $75 every semester.
