How will your major and SHRM help you reach your
goals?
SHRM will help me reach my goal in
becoming a successful HR professional once I graduate. It will provide me with
the correct resources and knowledge of the HR field. For those who do not know,
SHRM stands for the Society for Human Resource Management. The main purpose of
our organization is to educate
students with knowledge of the Human Resources field, inspire them
through the knowledge of guest speakers, gain insight through
internships, motivate them through the power of professional
networking, and expand social opportunities.
If I want to pursue a career in HR, many employers look for involvement and
passion in the field. SHRM offers a lot networking opportunities and
professional conferences that are crucial for my career path.
What resource on campus do you recommend for
students to utilize?
The resources I encourage all students to use
are Student organizations and Career Services. I find it imperative for
students to join an organization that will not only help them with friendships
and social opportunities, but to get them on the right track with their major
or career path. Careers Services offers students’ internship events, workshops,
job opportunities, resume editing, and other resources to help students reach
their goal.
What has been the most meaningful part of your
McCoy Experience?
The most meaningful part of my McCoy experience
was finding the right organization that was the right fit for me. SHRM has
helped me tremendously by providing me with amazing friends and internships. If
it wasn’t for SHRM, I would not be where I am today, and I am proud to serve as
president for this academic year. What makes your organization special/unique?
What makes our organization special is the members and leaders who are in it. Our advisors and executive officers have so much passion for SHRM and always go the extra mile to help the members develop over their academic year. In our organization, we pride ourselves on our professionalism, yet we always want to create that culture where we can make friends, have fun, and be successful all at the same time. Knowing how to mix all those thing at once and still reach our goals is the main reason why we are unique. Passion and motivation is what we strive on
What is something you wish someone would’ve told you before you started your college journey?
What I wish someone told me before college was that there would be a lot of obstacles along the way but you should never let it discourage you. College is an amazing experience, but that doesn’t come with some difficult obstacles along the way. The key idea is to never let it hold you back on where you are trying to go. This is the time to find your true self and find out what you really want. Always stay motivated and surround yourself with the right people.
How can students join your organization?
Students can join SHRM by coming to our meetings that are held in room 240 (McCoy) from 5:00-6:15. Our next meeting is September 9th and then meetings will occur every other Wednesday. If they show interest in joining after the meeting is done, they can reach out to myself, our one of the other officers and we will explain on how to become a member. They can also like us on Facebook and post concerns or questions on how to join and we will reply with all the necessary information. They can like us at Facebook/SHRMatTxstate
