Business Learning Community - Dress for Success

The Business Learning Community held their "Dress for Success" event at J Crew Outlet and had a total of 31 students in attendance! The students very much enjoyed the interactive fashion show, learning the ins and outs of dressing business casual and business professional!

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities National Internship Program is seeking applicants for spring and summer 2015 intenrship sessions!

The HACU National Internship Program (HNIP) provides students the opportunity to receive valuable work experience through paid internships with federal agencies and private corporations. Since its inception, HNIP has provided more than 10,000 internships. The deadline for students to apply for a spring internship is November 14th. The summer session has two deadlines: 
 
Students who wish to be considered for U.S. Intelligence Community internships or international opportunities must apply by October 31st.

For all other internships with the federal government and corporate partners, students must apply before February 27th. 

HNIP matches a student's career interests, educational background, and previous work or volunteer experience with the needs and demands of federal and corporate partners. Students receive paid round-trip airfare to their internship site, housing arrangement assistance, emergency medical insurance, a weekly stipend, and attend an intern orientation in Washington, D.C. Throughout the internship, students also participate in a wide range of professional development, networking, and cultural activities.

Announcing Business Leadership Week 2015 Keynote Speaker: Felix Sanchez


Felix Sanchez  



Felix R. Sanchez is the Chief Executive Officer of TerraCom, a government and public relations firm in Washington, DC, and serves as the pro bono Chairman of the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts (NHFA). In 1997, Felix joined actors Jimmy Smits, Sonia Braga, and Esai Morales in establishing NHFA.  The goal of the foundation is to advance the presence of Latinos in the entertainment and telecommunications Industries. He is a longtime advocate against Latino underrepresentation in the entertainment industry.

   Felix has developed a number of collateral infrastructure and pipeline programs to assist the entertainment industry achieve its goals of promoting more Latinos in this business. Most recently, he established an educational/networking forum for NHFA’s students in California, Texas and New York. Under his leadership and in partnership with Children Now, NHFA produces an annual quantitative look at Latino portrayal on network primetime TV. Felix also has organized a partnership between NHFA and the entertainment industry to develop actor showcases; promote Latino writers; develop new talent development programs and assists the industry in addressing issues of concern to the Latino community. To date, NHFA has awarded over one million dollars in scholarship grants to Latino graduate students interested in careers in the entertainment industry.

Felix is a former legislative assistant to then Senator Lloyd M. Bentsen, Jr (1983-1986).; former director of congressional relations for the American Gas Association and former vice president for government relations for the American Methanol Institute.

Mr. Sanchez received his B.A. and M.A. degrees with highest honors from The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied Psychology and Curriculum and Instruction, respectively. He holds a J.D from the University of Houston’s College of Law.

He is a former CNN contributor and has been profiled in The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, PBS, NBC’s The Today Show, Dateline NBC, Entertainment Tonight, E!, Access Hollywood, Hispanic Link, The Washingtonian, Washington Hispanic, PEOPLE en Español, La Opinión, Univision and Telemundo.  Mr. Sanchez was named one of the most influential Latinos by Hispanic Magazine in 2000 and was awarded the Mickey Leland Award for Excellence by the National Association of Minorities in Communications (NAMIC).  In 1999, Hispanic Business magazine named TERRACOM’s CEO “one of the most influential Hispanics in the United States. Mr. Sanchez has been a CNN contributor and a commentator on the CNN show Take5. In September 2002, he was profiled on CBS’s Sunday Morning and PBS’s Speaking Freely. In 2003-06, he has served as a guest contributor on the NBC syndicated show Hispanics Today.

Study Abroad Fair is Thursday October 30th



 The Study Abroad Office invites you to the Texas State Study Abroad Fair on

Representatives of different programs will be providing information to those interested in studying, teaching, working, and/or researching abroad.  The fair includes a variety of options for international experiences, including faculty-led study abroad programs, internship and service learning opportunities, and semester exchange programs, among others. 

Texas State students have to opportunity to apply for the International Education Fee Scholarship.  The funding available for the upcoming academic year is approximately $300,000.
