The PACE Center is looking to
hire Peer Mentors for the 2014-2015 academic year. Peer Mentors are
upperclassman who are placed in select US1100 classes and provide in and out of
classroom support to help students academically and socially integrate to Texas
State. The diverse Peer Mentors demonstrate academic integrity,
responsible decision-making, and help students get connected to co-curricular
activities. They hold office hours each week, and plan out of classroom
activities. Peer Mentors are committed to a student’s success during their first year.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Texas State GPA of 3.0
- Texas State student for minimum of 1 academic year or 30 hours
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Positive attitude
- An active and involved member of the Texas State Community
- Successful completion of US 1100 class
- Must be available to attend Peer Mentor training in August prior to the beginning of school
- Students with 60+ hours by Fall 2014 preferred
Responsibilities:
- Attend all US 1100 classes
- Assist students in interacting with Instructors
- Attend a weekly meeting with the PACE MAC team
- Meet weekly with US 1100 Instructor
- Provide one social activity/teambuilding event per month and encourage Common Experience activities
- Help students become familiar with university resources; advise and refer students to appropriate university resources, as the need arises
- Schedule one on one meetings with mentees per month
- Hold office hours outside of class
- Record observations and submit Weekly Activity Sheets to the PACE Assistant Directors
- Participate in training the week prior to the beginning of all semesters and throughout the semester as needed.
