Career Services Brown Bag Certification Series

Bring your lunch and join Career Services to learn about career-related topics every Friday in April! Each week, Career Services will help you get to know services offered through Career Services, learn how to write the perfect resume, ace internship and job interviews and more. Attend all four sessions for the best professional development experience.

Each workshop is open to all majors and classifications, but seating is limited. Lunch will not be provided. 
 
Requirements for Completion:

  • Create a Career Services approved resume

AP Style
Monday, April 15 | 4:00 – 5:00 PM | The Writing Center (ASB-N 108)
Learn the basics of AP style from in-text citations to the references page and all the formatting in between.
 
MLA Style
Wednesday, April 17 | 4:00 – 5:00 PM | The Writing Center (ASB-N 108)
Learn the basics of MLA style from in-text citations to the references page and all the formatting in between.
 
APA Style
Thursday, April 18 | 5:00 – 6:00 PM | The Writing Center (ASB-N 108)
Learn the basics of APA style from in-text citations to the references page and all the formatting in between.
 
GSP Review Sessions
Every Monday and Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in ASB-N 108
Students majoring in Mass Communication or Health Administration are required to pass the Grammar, Spelling, and Punctuation Exam. The Writing Center offers a review session every week to help students take on the GSP challenge. The review sessions are also a great review of basic grammar and punctuation for all students.
 
 
 
All events are free and do not require registration.
 
In addition to the events listed above, the Writing Center provides individual counseling in writing for Texas State students at any level of study in any discipline. If you have or are interested in studying abroad, this interactive presentation and networking event will allow you to learn more about the career implications of a study abroad experience.

Dr. Phil Gardner and Dr. Linda Gross from Michigan State University will present their popular lecture, Unpacking Your Study Abroad Experience: Critical Reflection for Workplace Competencies, and disclose the skills and competencies employers value most from study abroad, strategies to articulate your skills learned and developed through study abroad, and how to “unpack” your experiences. The presentation will be followed by a networking reception and is open to all students, faculty and staff.

AITP National Collegiate Conference


Here’s a shout out to the Texas State students who competed in St. Louis this past weekend at the 2013 AITP National Collegiate Conference! 
 


Several AITP students received Honorable Mention in the following areas:

Spencer Miller and Lauren Ogle in Database Design, Nathan Ferguson and Weston Baxter in MS Office and Matthew Niemeyer in Network Design.




 
Weston Baxter and Govanna Mata won 1st place in Business Analytics out of 21 teams, Spencer Miller and Elmer Huang won 1st place in Visual Studio .NET out of 45 teams,  and
Able Carmona won 3rd place in Enterprise Systems out of 29 teams!!
 
 
 
 
 
Texas State University also won the coveted Top Monkey Award which is awarded based on a formula of distance traveled, number of students attending, and number of competitions attempted. We had 34 students travel 944 miles and compete in 90+ contests! Great job!!
